| The Lulu LaRude Scholarship was created in memory of Lulu. It was decided that since Lulu was in the performing arts, it be appropriate that we award this scholarship to someone in the performing arts. Also, because of the quality of nursing care Lulu received we are adding nursing this year. The applicant must study in N.S. -A goal statement should be submitted-showing goals you have directed to your area of study. -Your previous years marks should be submitted(photocopy, no originals. These will be destroyed after decision.) -A short essay of up to 500 words (typed) must be submitted telling us why you feel you deserve a scholarship. -Application deadline will be JULY 31ST FOR SEPTEMBER 2010 CLASSES The applications can be submitted at the front bar of Reflections Cabaret marked "Attention Stephen Filek" You must be 19 to drop off the application.bar opens at 10pm Sun/Mon/Thurs/Fri/and 9pm on Sat.Please include the following information in your application: Name: Address: Phone: Age: Area of Study: Place of Study: Length of Program: Year you are in: School Start Date: Lulu LaRude aka Charles "Chuck" McDuff Gillis was so many things-a loving husband, devoted friend, drag celebrity, make-up specialist, costume designer, mc, entertainer. Lulu was the total package, she had the ability to captivate an audience like no other. Her career spanned over 25 years and in that time she thrilled tens of thousands. Some notable highlights included performing at The Ribbon of Dreams AIDS Benefit which starred Country Megastar Trisha Yearwood, doing makeup for The Rankin Family, hosting her own T.V. show, co-creating the Mz. Gay Halifax Pageant, raising thousands of charitable dollars, doing The Loud and Queer Cabaret which showcased LGBTQ culture in Edmonton,hosting her own show Five Minutes of Fame, sharing a makeup business called Making Faces with Priscilla Love, becoming Empress IX of Edmonton, and marrying the love of her life Billy McDuff Gillis. Lulu had a heart of pure gold and her legacy will live on.
